讲座预告|李少锋教授: The Timing of Form-Focused Instruction in Task-Based Language Teaching

讲座简介:

Task-based language teaching (TBLT) emphasizes the importance of learning a second language by performing meaning-oriented tasks where learners use language as a tool to fulfill communicative objectives. While researchers and practitioners converge on the necessity of attending to linguistic forms in TBLT, the ideal time to provide form-focused instruction (FFI) has been an issue of controversy. This talk provides a comprehensive, in-depth discussion of the theory, research, and pedagogy pertaining to the timing of FFI in TBLT. The talk starts with summary of the theoretical perspectives on FFI timing, such as the Interaction Hypothesis, Skill Acquisition Theory, Transfer Appropriate Processing Theory, and so on. It then provides a synthesis of the empirical evidence on the various options that have been examined in the research, such as pre-task, within-task, and post-task instruction; online vs. offline corrective feedback; and immediate vs. delayed corrective feedback. The talk ends with a discussion of the practical relevance of the research findings that have been accumulated to date or implications the research has for classroom teaching.


讲者介绍:

李少锋教授 (Professor Li Shaofeng)现任美国佛罗里达州立大学二语与外语教育专业教授,博士生导师,专业负责人。主要研究方向为二语习得、语言学习认知能力、任务型学习与教学、以及量化研究方法(包括元分析)。近几年在国内外权威期刊上发表多篇学术论文,相关期刊包括Applied Linguistics, Studies in Second Language Acquisition, Language Learning, Modern Language Journal, 《现代外语》,《外语与外语教学》等。他的文章也见诸由 Blackwell Wiley, Cambridge University Press, John Benjamins, Multilingual Matters, Palgrave, Routledge 等权威出版社出版的学术专著。编著、合作编著、以及合作撰写的著作包括Individual Differences in Task-Based Language Teaching and Learning, Language Aptitude, Task-Based Language Teaching: Theory and Practice, The Routledge Handbook of Second Language Acquisition and Individual Differences. 他目前担任 Research Methods in Applied Linguistics 期刊主编,TESOL Quarterly 书评编辑,以及多家权威期刊编委。
